04 Chapter Grammar: Direct Object ENDINGS -M -AS- OS -ES

Direct Objects



  • Direct objects (DO) are words in a sentence that RECEIVE THE ACTION OF THE VERB. 
  • Singular direct objects of masculine or feminine nouns that end with -M
  • Plural direct objects of masculine or feminine nouns end in -AS, OS or -ES. 
  • Neuter nouns follow a different pattern, which we will learn later. 
  • me and te are direct object pronouns (no -m)
Transitive & Intransitive Verbs



  • Transitive verbs take a direct object (TV)
  • Intransitive Verbs do NOT take a direct object (IT)
Examples:

                DO
Sextus Corneliam vexat.  Sextus annoys Cornelia.

   DO
Vocem Cornelia audit. Cornelia hears the voice.

Sextus ex arbore cadit.  Sextus falls from the tree.

    S         LV           C
Sextus    est     puer molestus.  Sextus is an annoying boy.

Brevi tempore Cornelia  defessa  est.    After a short time, Cornelia is tired.

Magna vox Corneliam terret.  The loud voice terrifies Cornelia.
